About
The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance was started in 2011 by the Broadway Education Alliance to recognize outstanding achievement in high school arts programs throughout the greater NYC area. Originally called The Gershwin Awards, the program has since been renamed to honor the legacy of actor, director, and educator Roger Rees, whose lifelong devotion to excellence inspired generations.
Thanks to the generous support of many theater arts organizations, educational institutions, and passionate community ambassadors who believe in the power of arts education, The Roger Rees Awards presents a diverse portfolio of honors and recognitions while focusing on providing access to resources and enrichment opportunities for high school students and educators.
The Power of Arts Education
The Broadway Education Alliance is dedicated to giving kids access – to information, people, and experiences that will help inform and inspire them in their formative years.
The Roger Rees Awards serves to promote the value of arts education in schools, as well as celebrate emerging talent – on stage, backstage, and off stage. The benefits of arts education are limitless, and through programming like The Roger Rees Awards, participants are given opportunities to engage with the New York City theater community, collaborate with peers, and develop their skills and confidence.
