2024 Roger Rees Awards Student Reporter Search

The Broadway Education Alliance is excited to partner again with Theatrely to present the 2024 Roger Rees Awards Student Reporter Search, an opportunity for students with an interest in media marketing and journalism. One student will be selected to appear as the co-host for The Roger Rees Awards Pre-Show that will be promoted by RRA’s official media sponsor, BroadwayWorld, as well as invited to represent the Greater New York Region in The Jimmy Awards® National Student Reporter Search. This season, the award category will feature original works about The Outsiders.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

• Student should not be up for consideration for the Roger Rees Awards for Outstanding Performer, New Faces Honors, or the Harmony Helper Choral Award.

• Available on Sunday, May 19, to attend and co-host The Roger Rees Awards Pre-Show.

• Willing to represent The Roger Rees Awards in The Jimmy Awards Student Reporter Search and available from Saturday, June 22 – Monday, June 24 if chosen as The Jimmy Award winner.

• Completed online registration with all assignment requirements uploaded by the final due date.

ASSIGNMENT

Round 1: (All applicants should complete)

(1) Complete online registration.
(2) Upload a 300-word biography that includes why student is interested in this opportunity and why they would be an effective reporter and co-host for The Roger Rees Awards Pre-Show.
Finalists Assignment: (Finalists will be notified and required to complete the following)
(1) Attend Online Masterclass with Theatrely’s editorial team to prepare for Online Press Conference. Masterclass
topics include: how to research, developing questions, interview tips, and knowing the audience.
(2) Participate in Online Press Conference with Broadway Professionals of partnering show, The Outsiders.
(3) Create a 2-minute video feature story and written summary on: The Outsiders and why this story still resonates with
audiences almost 50 years later? Why is it important to recognize teenage voices through theatre? Submissions
should include a minimum of 2 interviews; could include students, educator, theater professional, actor, or anyone
they feel is credible source to support the point-of-view of the story.

WINNER SELECTION

A panel from Theaterly’s editorial team will select the winning student based on original video submission, as well as engagement, preparedness, and participation during the Masterclass and Online Press Conference.

PRIZE

(1) Two tickets to see The Outsiders.
(2) Autographed Playbill from Broadway Professionals participating in Press Conference.
(3) Invitation to work the red carpet at a Broadway Event
(4) Appear as Co-Host of The Roger Rees Awards Showcase Pre-Show promoted by RRA’s official media
sponsor, BroadwayWorld.
(5) Coaching to help prepare materials for The Jimmy Awards® Student Reporter Search
