The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance

Individual Performer
Recognizing excellence in solo student performance.

Award winners will receive customized professional development from experts in the relevant field.

The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance is proud to introduce a new award in its portfolio to recognize exceptional talent in a student artist. This category is open to any high school student exploring a vocal, dance and/or acting performance discipline not limited to musical theatre. Interested students can submit an audition video(s)of a song of their choosing from any genre that is most relevant to them.

All high schools located throughout the Greater New York region are eligible to submit a student for consideration of this award——whether or not the school has presented a concert or musical in this academic year and/or offers a formal theater arts program. The Roger Rees Awards region includes the following 11 Counties: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau, New York (Manhattan), Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.

All schools submitting students for consideration in one or more award categories must be registered with the Broadway Education Alliance. The annual program registration fee is $100 per school. The fee is waived for Title 1 schools. If your district requires you to submit a check request, please provide all essential information so that an invoice can be provided. If your district requires a lengthy turnaround time for check payments, please plan accordingly. No student submissions will be reviewed unless payment is received in full by March 12. Funds collected help to offset the administration costs associated with online audition submissions and adjudication.

Registered students can submit a performance video for consideration. Award guidelines to be posted soon.

All video submissions will be reviewed by a panel of professional casting directors who will complete a Roger Rees Awards vetted rubric intended to rank students who demonstrate exceptional or unique talent. There is no set number of students who will be selected for a follow-up interview with a team of advisors.

Please note: Students competing in this award category are not eligible for the Best Actress or Best Actor Award or to participate in the Jimmy Awards®.

One or more students will be awarded the opportunity for private coaching, master classes, pre-college scholarships, or professional auditions.
