Macy’s Audition FAQ

There are still opportunities to audition for Camp Broadway’s performance in the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but before you arrive for your audition here are some important things to know…

What time does my child need to arrive for the audition? 

All those auditioning should arrive at the published start time.  Sign in is done at this time and groups are arranged.


May my child arrive after the 9:00 start time?

There is no guarantee those arriving after the start time will be seen.  Since this is an open call, we do not know how many will attend. Camp Broadway’s director will leave the site after the last person has been seen.  By arriving late, you risk the audition being over prior to your arrival.


How long will the audition take?

The length of the audition is dependent upon how many children attend.  Since we do not know how many will attend, we can only give an estimate of 2 – 3 hours.  Please note it could be longer or shorter.


What do I need to do to prepare my child for the audition?

To prepare for the audition your child simply needs to come ready to dance!  A combination will be taught as part of the audition.


Does my child need to bring anything to the audition?

A smile!  There are no requirements other appropriate attire.  Please do not bring headshots or resumes as they will not be accepted.  Past experience will not be weighted in considering children for the cast.  A photo of each child will be taken at the time of the audition.  This photo is for reference only and will not be published.


What should my child wear to the audition?

Appropriate attire includes comfortable clothes in which your child can easily move as well as soft, rubber soled shoes.  Specific dance attire and / or footwear is not required.  Please no sandals, flip flops or hard sole dress shoes.


What will my child need to do for the audition?

Children will be seen in groups and taught a dance combination by Camp Broadway’s Artistic Director.  The children will not be asked to sing.


When will I be notified if my child has been selected?

We will try to notify everyone as soon as possible as we understand travel plans will need to be made.  Our last audition is in Jacksonville, Florida on September 17.  You will be notified the following week.  At this time you will receive a special weblink for registration.


How will I be contacted/ notified?

A representative from the Camp Broadway office in New York City will contact the parents / guardians of those cast in the parade.


What are the costs of the program?

The program fee is $895 per cast member.


What does the program involve? 

This special Camp Broadway experience includes 6-days of music, movement rehearsals and workshops as well as on site rehearsals at Herald Square under the direction of Tony Parise, Camp Broadway Artistic Director.  Campers will receive Camp Broadway giveaways and will be able to keep their costume.


Do you have a list of recommended NYC hotels for program participants?

Upon acceptance to this program parents / guardians will receive information regarding travel partners and any discounts available to our families.


Are there any exceptions to the age requirement? 

The age requirement (children ages 12 – 16 at the time of the parade) for this program has been set by Macy’s.  No exceptions are possible.  This is not at the discretion of Camp Broadway.
