HARMONY HELPER® AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN CHORAL GROUP PERFORMANCE

THE AWARD

Broadway Education Alliance Inc. (BEA) is proud to partner with Harmony Helper® and The Goren Family Foundation to present the Harmony Helper® Award for Excellence in Choral Group Performance. This award celebrates the artistry and creativity of high school choral groups and rewards the talent, dedication, and teamwork essential in choral music.

AWARD ELIGIBILITY

All high schools located throughout the Greater New York region that have registered for participation in the Roger Rees Awards Program are eligible to participate Harmony Helper® Award for Excellence in Choral Group Performance. BEA currently defines the Greater New York region as 11 Counties in New York including the Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau, New York (Manhattan), Orange, Putnam, Queens, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.

Choirs or student vocal groups should feature a minimum of 4 students, and submissions should be approved licensed arrangements performed during the current academic year.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

School must be officially registered for participation in The Roger Rees Awards Program for the current season to enter students for this award. Official school representative may learn more and register their school for participation HERE. Upon completing the school registration, additional details and guidelines for participation will be sent.

Overview of Award Process

Choral Submission- Group music teacher or music director will submit a video of the student choral performance to the Roger Rees Awards team.

  • Select a song in any genre that can include contemporary pop/rock show choir (think Glee), a cappella vocal ensemble (think Pentatonix), musical theatre, or any other style that best represents the groups’ vocal skills and performance capabilities.
  • Prepare and produce an audition video that begins with the name of the school and group, background on the group/program, and an introduction to or insight about the choral performance being submitted for the award. The introduction should not exceed 60 seconds.
  • Produce a video of the student choral performance—presented live-in person or digitally online. Please pay close attention to lighting and sound. The vocal performance portion of your video should not exceed 4 minutes.
  • The complete video submission should not exceed 5 minutes.
  • All instructions for submitting your groups video audition will be sent upon completion of school registration for the Roger Rees Awards Program.

AWARD ADJUDICATION PROCESS

Entries will be reviewed by a panel of music experts assembled by Harmony Helper® including musicians, music directors, composers, singers, and others. The judges will evaluate each submission based on overall performance execution, song interpretation, musical expression, dynamic range, and quality of engagement through song. The decision of the judges is final.

AWARD PRIZE

The choral group selected as the winner of the Harmony Helper® Award for Excellence in Choral Group Performance will receive:

  • A free annual subscription to Harmony Helper® for all members of the choral group. (Music director must provide contact information for all participating students.)
  • $500 for music from Sheet Music Direct for the school’s choral program
  • Exposure as the featured group on Harmony Helper® social channels.

Harmony Helper® reserves the right to select additional winners for recognition.
