Now in its 9th year, the Roger Rees Awards (previously the Gershwin Awards) is presented by Disney Theatrical Group, the Broadway Education Alliance and Camp Broadway LLC who serves as the program administrator and showcase producer. It is currently the only student award in the New York metro area that recognizes distinction in student performance and outstanding achievement in high school musical theatre programs. The program is funded through donations from industry professionals, foundations, licensing companies and other individuals or companies who are committed to supporting performing arts programs in area schools. The Roger Rees Awards (RRA) is also the Greater New York Regional Award program of The Broadway League Foundation’s Jimmy® Awards, aka The National High School Musical Theatre Awards.

Over the years, the Roger Rees Awards has served as an effective platform for talented young artists to further their career goals. And, many past participants are working professionally in/around the performing arts or related creative industries. We can also boast two national award winners—2015 Best Actress Marla Louissaint (Manhattan’s Beacon High School graduate), who is now in the national touring cast of Beautiful and 2018 Best Actor Andrew Barth Feldman (senior at Lawrence Woodmere Academy on Long Island).
